Andrew Beaumont - Drums, Percussion
Name: Andrew Beaumont
Nicknames: Andy, Drew, Dice.
Instrument(s)/equipment: Drums and percussion -
anything I can shake, scratch, or hit to make noise. I
play a vintage Slingerland kit with Zildjian cymbals,
except for a set of Pasite hi-hats. At various times
my arsenal includes a Mapex Black Panther popcorn
snare drum, two LP congas, wind chimes and numerous
shakers.
Musical Influences: Anything and everything I hear. I
especially draw inspiration from drummers Kenny
Aronoff, Steve Gadd and Stewart Copeland.
Describe your musical style/philosophy: As I've aged,
I've discovered that less is more. (Maybe that's so I
don't have to haul more gear around.) Call it a
musical maturation.
First Album Bought: I think it was Foghat's "Fool for
the City." I do know that the first album I owned
(other than some Sesame Street sing-along) was "An
Evening with John Denver."
Favorite Album: That's a toughie, cuz it varies from
week to week. Right now I'd have to say Joe Strummer
and the Mescaleros' "Streetcore."
What's in your CD player right now? The Dead Kennedys "Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death",Townes Van Zandt: "Live at the Jester
Lounge-Houston, Texas 1966", Derek Sherinian: "Anthology"
First band you were in: Chaser, a cover band based out
of Minot, N.D. (Actually, it was the North Plains
Elementary School band.)
Your ultimate rock moment: I'm still searching for it.
Favorite WOR gig? The next one-especially if we get
paid.
Favorite WOR song to play and why: "Not Supposed To"
It's just fun to perform. That, and I get to pound on
the cowbell.
Favorite Food to eat and/or cook: In general, I love
to cook. Stop by the house and I'll whip something up
for ya. I have a serious weakness for pizza rolls. If
someone wanted to get military secrets out of me (not
that I know any), they could ply me with pizza rolls.
Favorite City: Sin City.
Favorite Author: Fiction-Robert A. Heinlein;
nonfiction-Bruce Catton.
Last Book You Read: "Moon: The Life and Death of a
Rock Legend"
Favorite Condiment: Pepper. I use a lot of garlic in
my cooking, so I guess you could throw that in. But I
like to think of garlic as a vegetable, not a spice.
Favorite Quote (and source): "If I were two-faced,
would I be wearing this one?" Abraham Lincoln
Non-musical Pastimes: Reading, video games,
basketball, golf, softball
Last Movie You Saw: "Cold Mountain."
Favorite TV show: I'm aging myself here, but "M*A*S*H"
is my all-time favorite. "The Simpsons" would be a
close second.
Where did you grow up: Minot, North Dakota.
What music did you listen to growing up: I grew up in
the '70s, turned to Heavy Metal (especially Iron
Maiden) as a teenager. In college, thanks to a
girlfriend, I found country music, but never let go of
the rocker inside me. I also listened to my Pa's
8-track tapes as a youngster, getting a large dose of
Johhny Cash and Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass.
What's your worst or most peculiar habit: I chew my
fingernails down to nubs.
Favorite place to visit/spend time: North Dakota, so I
can see my kids.
Alcohol of choice: Seagrams 7 Crown
Current and former jobs: My work history looks like
this: Grocery store bagboy/aspiring musician, buffet
cook/aspiring musician, journalist/aspiring musician.
People say I look like: John Cusack, but I like to
think that John Cusack looks like me.
Would four out of five dentists recommend you over
sugarless gum? Absolutely, I've been told that I'm
bubblelicious.
